I am down bad for the Texas Roadhouse rolls and their honey butter. After craving these for so long, I finally came across a recipe that creates the perfect copycat rolls and butter. It’s easy to make and worth serving with any dinner you make!
Prep time: 25 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Ingredients for the rolls:
- 1 tablespoon warm water
- 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 packet of active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm whole milk
- 7 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, room temp
- 3 1/2 cups bread flour (having bread flour is important for this recipe)
Ingredients for the cinnamon honey butter:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons sugar and honey
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
The Rolls:
In a bowl or mixer (use the paddle attachment), mix together the water, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and yeast. Let this sit for about 5 minutes (this will create a thick mixture). After the sugar and yeast has dissolved, add the remaining sugar, milk, 6 tablespoons of butter, and salt. Mix until combined. Add in the egg after all the other ingredients are combined, and mix. Lastly, mix the flour to the mixture and mix on medium-high for about 3 minutes. Scrape the dough into the center of the bowl.
Change the attachment on the mixer from the paddle to the dough hook. Now, you need to knead the dough on low speed for 3-4 minutes.
Spray a separate bowl with non-stick spray and dump the dough into the bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap, place it in a warm place, and allow the dough to rise for about 1-2 hours.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray. Punch the dough to flatten it and divide into 12 equal pieces. Take each piece and round into a ball, placing it into the baking dish. Cover the baking dish with a towel and allow the dough to rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden. After removing from the oven, brush the leftover butter overtop of the rolls.
The Butter:
Add the butter, sugar, honey, and cinnamon to a medium bowl and mix together on medium speed. Mix until fully combined.
